Elkton resident Scott Dye, 43, was charged with one count of sexual solicitation of a minor and three counts of possession of child pornography after being busted by state police investigators.

Police say that on Friday, Oct. 7, a trooper with the Maryland State Police Computer Crimes Unit was tipped off by a separate police agency that Dye was engaging in an inappropriate text chat with who he believed was an underage girl.

Dye then allegedly engaged in another inappropriate conversation with the trooper, who was posing as a 15-year-old girl.

It is alleged that Dye suggested meeting with whom he thought was the minor yesterday in Bel Air, but when he arrived at the planned location, he was met by troopers who arrested him.

According to the Maryland Sex Offender Registry, Dye is a "Tier II" sex offender, which includes charges of distributing child porn or any third-degree sex offense

Dye was taken to the Harford County Detention Center to be processed. He was scheduled for a bail review hearing on Wednesday, Oct. 12.
